I have been professionally involved with Michael Mahoney for over two years, after meeting him at an irritable bowel support group. He was the invited speaker and I was very impressed with his insight into this complex and often misunderstood disorder. As a clinical hypnotherapist, he spoke of the benefits that this proven complementary approach could have towards the management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). As a Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner, with over seven years experience in post, I have taken a particular interest in IBS and its management. I have thoroughly researched this disorder both in post and whilst undertaking a nursing degree with a specialist practitioner award, and critiqued the standard biomedical approach to IBS. 

Research has proven 'gut related' hypnotherapy to be the most effective therapy in reducing the symptoms of IBS, but sadly this approach still remains alien for many consultants to the 'conventional' model of health care in the UK. 

I must add that I work at a clinical level with IBS sufferers within the secondary care or 'hospital' situation, within a university teaching hospital, dealing with the chronic and more severe sufferers, where the conventional biomedical or pharmaceutical approach is frequently ineffective. 

I am a firm believer in an alternative or complementary approach, and have discussed this in depth with Michael. I have referred many patients to him with beneficial results.
His impact considers the holistic nature needed for the management of IBS. 
Michael maintains a totally professional, high level of practice. He is constantly updating, hard working, enthusiastic and totally trustworthy. I believe clinical  hypnotherapy can advance the current management of IBS as part of a multidisciplinary approach to the disorder.

Karen has been a nurse for 18 years, and a specialist gastro nurse for 7 years. She has spoken at the European Conference of Gastroenterology. She is the nursing representative at the Colo-Proctology group with specialist knowledge in IBS.  Karen also validated the first Nurse Degree Course, at St Margarets College Edinburgh.
